How we compute it

Formula

wall = bucket ≥ 5 × median of its neighbouring buckets (± 8, same side)
and ≥ $1M (BTC, ETH) or ≥ $250k (other coins), confirmed after 2 checks 5 seconds apart
  • A bucket with at least 5 × the median of its neighbouring buckets (±8, same side) and at least $1M (BTC, ETH) or $250k, not the innermost bucket, at most 3 per side; confirmed after two checks every 5 seconds.
  • It ends as pulled (the price never traded into it), filled (it did) or gone (left the observed range).

How to read it

  • A wall close to the price is visible liquidity the price has to absorb to pass.
  • Many pulled walls mean the visible liquidity there was not reliable.

Common mistakes

  • Reading a pulled wall as spoofing. Orders are pulled for many reasons; the book does not say why.
  • Expecting a wall to hold. A wall is resting liquidity at one moment; it can be pulled or filled at any time.

Honest limits

  • No owner can be named (exchanges publish no order ids), and a pulled wall is not proof of spoofing.
  • Only the books Blockmetric streams (top coins; CEX books for a few coins).

Questions and answers

Can you tell who placed an order book wall?

No. Exchanges publish no order ids or owners in their books, so a wall is a size at a price, nothing more.
